Can you recommend a general reference guide to U.S. paper money?
There are numerous books on the subject, but I suggest two excellent reference guides covering U.S. paper money. The first is "Paper Money of the United States" by Robert Friedberg, which is a standard guide on the subject. Also, "The Comprehensive Catalog of U.S. Paper Money" by Gene Hessler is a broad guide to U.S. currency.

Can you recommend some reference books specifically about currency errors?
There are two widely available references on the subject. "U.S. Error Note Encyclopedia" authored by Stephen M. Sullivan is a quite comprehensive and technically detailed book, ideal for the serious student of errors. Another book, "United States Paper Money Errors" authored by Dr. Frederick J. Bart is a straightforward guide to errors, perfect for the layman or someone new to error collecting who is seeking a handy reference to the subject.

Sullivan's book may be ordered from Capital Currency.
Bart's book can be ordered from Executive Currency, or found in many bookstores.
